Описание к видео Village History & Sod House Exhibit | Beiseker, Alberta

Take a journey through time in Beiseker, Alberta, a prairie village shaped by railroads, immigrants, and the sheer will to build something from nothing.

Founded in 1908 by the Calgary Colonization Company, Beiseker was one of many communities that sprang up along the expanding rail line. The promise of 160 acres for ten dollars brought hopeful settlers from across Canada, Europe, and the U.S., each determined to break ground and build a life on Alberta’s open prairie. But life wasn’t easy, nearly half of homesteads failed between 1905 and 1930, worn down by poor crops, isolation, and brutal winters.

Despite those odds, the village grew. It gained a station, shops, and one of the tallest hotels on the prairie the King George Hotel. The community evolved, adapting to new times while holding tight to its roots.

This video ends at the Soddy, a powerful reminder of where it all began for the Settlers. Built in 2006 by local volunteers using over 1,400 rolls of sod, the reconstructed sod house stands on museum grounds as a tribute to Alberta’s early pioneers. These homes, made of nothing but earth and grass, provided shelter, warmth, and hope to those who braved the unknown.
