Titled 'Tholus', this forged and welded metal sculpture was designed in 1993 by Tom Petrusson and stands proud by the Japanese garden of Toulouse (jardin japonais Pierre-Baudis). Using scrap metal, with valves and pressure gauges popping from the beast's anatomy, the artist created a spectacular steampunk art piece designed as a dragon submarine. The word Tholus means 'dome' in Latin, and refers to volcanic landforms on Mars, a rather fitting name for a dragon. Captain Nemo would approve.
