Welcome to the single-player mode of the game: Hero Mode. Here, you will fight almost-anthro living tentacles trying to destroy the innocent squids while no else but you and your boss will know about the war!

Key Notes:
Every stage in this mode is pretty straightforward. You must simply defeat enemies and make it to the end, where you will rescue a captive zapfish.
Every stage has a hidden Sunken Scroll that explains the backstory of the game's origins and what the Great Turf War was about.
The red orbs are not necessary for 100% completion, though you should make a habit to gather as many as you can to upgrade your weaponry in this mode.
Regardless of what weapon you equipped before entering the mode, you won't get to use it over the default one. However, there will be an exception if you scalped...I mean, obtained a specific Splatoon amiibo, each of them having special single-player challenges with different weapons (which is actually a really bad practice in using the Splatoon amiibo in general, even worse if you didn't get the Squid amiibo as you'll never buy it alone in the US without buying the whole pack...for now, anyway).

Sunken Scroll
I may as well explain where these are in each stage. This one is found crossing the red billboard to the area with three high towers. The box on the tallest one has the scroll. Reach it by climbing the smaller tower with no blocked edges.

You also get to see what happens when you replay a level after rescuing a zapfish. What a nice replacement.
