A couple of years ago I found the back-up copy of the show tape from The Runner Stumbles from 1985. It was on a cassette, in a box with other music, SFX, etc. It was a decent copy 40 years ago but was not stored carefully or properly; with no thought about heat, humidity, magnetic degradation, or any of the other perils that can befall magnetic storage media.

If I recall correctly this was recorded in the hall just outside of what was at the time the TV Studio. (The hall leading from the lobby to the scene shop.) It was recorded on one of the university upright pianos and the lid was fastened down tightly. I used a couple of EV 635a microphones, (not ideal, but what was at hand). Recorded on the soundboard only – again, not ideal.

It’s a beautiful composition that I tried to repair and remaster; not perfect, but I still want to share with friends old and new.
