Homily for the Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B

Theme: A Community that Embraces the Least Privileged

In today’s reflection, we focus on building a Christian community that embraces the least privileged among us. Jesus’ words in the Gospel challenge us: “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all” (Mark 9:35). The world often teaches us to seek power and status, but Jesus shows us that true greatness is found in humility and service.

The first reading from Wisdom (Wisdom 2:12, 17-20) shows how the righteous are often persecuted for standing by God’s wisdom. Likewise, St. James (James 3:16-4:3) reminds us that selfishness breeds conflict, but humility and service lead to peace.

I share a story of an elderly woman from a small village who found joy in serving others despite her own poverty. Her deep faith and selfless service embody what today’s Gospel teaches: true greatness lies in serving others with a humble heart.

Let us pray for the grace to follow the path of humility and service, building a Christian community that cares for the least among us.
