Gang of Enthusiasm - BBQ Ride 2024

Jakarta to Bandung, a big ride to a bike show. A call went out to grab all our mates and ride. Fly along the highway until the buildings give way to trees then a twisted route from there on out. We would stick to the B roads, shot through with potholes and punctuated by villages. We left time to veer off and run amok in the hills, eating at roadside warungs and filling up from street bottles. When the sun began to descend we’d pull over, sleep in the woods, and wake up by washing in cold streams. ⁠

Saturday morning we made our destination, the ‘BBQ Ride’ in Bandung. Derelict warehouses repurposed to exhibition space — lines of polished custom bikes and cars to be gawked at. A chance to catch up with fellow riders from across Indonesia, we exchanged stories and collectively soaked up the sights.

But something was missing, we’d reached the end only to realise that the ride had been our goal all along. We collectively made the decision, there and then, it was time to head back on out.⁠
