The Life of William Faulkner with Carl Rollyson

Описание к видео The Life of William Faulkner with Carl Rollyson

Zoom lecture given for the Athenaeum of Philadelphia on October 14, 2020

A talk about the prolific and versatile William Faulkner: novelist, short story writer, screenwriter and playwright. This is the first biography to fully integrate all these different sides of America’s greatest writer. How Faulkner managed to support a large family and a fraught marriage, work in Hollywood and New York while creating enduring works of literature make him a still-relevant force, especially in relation to issues of race, sexuality, and equality. This talk draws on years of research in archives that have been largely ignored by previous biographers. The Life of William Faulkner offers a significant challenge to the commonly held assumptions about a reclusive and difficult writer.
