In rural Indonesia, most families rely on farming—but the rising cost of chemical fertilizer makes it harder to afford school fees, household expenses, and daily needs.

Through the MECIHO Accelerator (MECIHO-A) project, supported by The Starbucks Foundation and implemented by Corus organization Lutheran World Relief, farmers are learning how to produce low-cost, organic eco-enzyme fertilizer using everyday waste like fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

The results are transformative:

Reduced fungal infections (from 40% down to 10%)

Lower production costs

Healthier crops and higher yields

More income for children’s education

Less waste in the community

MECIHO-A is improving the lives of more than 47,000 Indonesians by empowering women and families through financial literacy, entrepreneurship, WASH, and sustainable agriculture. With training and peer support, farmers are building resilience, strengthening their communities, and investing in their children’s futures.

This is what sustainable agriculture looks like—locally led, cost-effective, and life-changing.
