On Aug. 1, 2023, Minnesota legalized recreational marijuana, and with it came the ability for adults 21 and older to grow their own cannabis. For the past year, Minnesotans have been able to grow up to eight plants in their homes, four of which can be flowering at a time.

Tim Heisel of Roseville waited until this March to start growing his own cannabis. He has been a medical patient since last year and uses cannabis to treat his PTSD and anxiety, and also help with sleep management.
Heisel’s first attempt at growing one cannabis plant yielded 92 grams of dried flower. He said the initial $700 investment for the first grow, including seeds and equipment, will be paid off with his second grow.
