The UN reports gang violence spiraling out of control in Haiti at a level not seen in decades. The number or reported killings soared by 35% last year and kidnappings more than doubled. This as the nation lost the few remaining elected officials they had. The Associated Press reports the United Nations will not get help from the United States or Canada to combat the violence in Haiti. In a statement on Tuesday, Canada's UN ambassador said future solutions "must be lead by Haitians and Haitian institutions." Child Protection Program Manager for Catholic Relief Services in Haiti, Frederique Jean-Baptiste, joins to share more about this and what she is seeing. Jean-Baptiste works with orphans and discusses what impact this crisis is having on these especially vulnerable children and families in Haiti. She tells us what things are like in these orphanages today, as Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and much of its infrastructure was destroyed in an earthquake 13 years ago. Jean-Baptiste fills us in on what we can do to help struggling families in Haiti.
