My guest Jordana did a cooking experience with Maria Grammatico.

In her beautiful Pasticceria in Eric, Trapani . Maria wrote a book about her life, it’s called Bitter Almonds. It tells you about her life and how she got to be the Queen of Sicilian pastry.
She co-authored with Mary Taylor Simetti. Mary Taylor Simetti is a New York author, who married a Sicilian professor and has been living in Sicily for over 50 years, she often travels back to the US. In this beautiful book, it tells you of her struggles being orphaned at the age of 10 and being put into a convent. She walked out of the convent at the age of 26 I believe. Opening up her own pastry shop in Erice, 55 years later she is the Queen of Sicilian pastry, an icon to Sicily, through her passion for almonds and her ancient recipes from the nuns.
