[4k] Amazing Hakone Tozan Train | Japan

Riding the Hakone Tozan Railway (Hakone Tozan Densha, Hakone Tozan Densha), the oldest mountain railway in Japan is not just for railway fans. The small train winds its way through many bridges and tunnels, passing through narrow forested valleys, stopping at small stations along the way, and turning around three turns.

The Hakone Tozan Railway consists of two sections. The lower section from Odawara to Hakone-Yumoto is used by the Odakyu Line from central Tokyo and is not particularly conspicuous. A small mountain railway runs on the upstream section from Hakone-Yumoto to Gora. At Gora, many travelers switch to the cable car to Lake Ashi.

The 35-minute train journey from Hakone Yumoto to Gora is especially beautiful in June and July when thousands of hydrangeas bloom along the tracks and light up in the evening. The best time to see hydrangeas is early July, and you can see them on trains and around stations.

From mid-June to mid-July, a special train runs between Hakone-Yumoto Station and Gora Station. He runs twice in each direction in the evening and requires seat reservations.
