Chad , officially the Republic of Chad or in French: République du Tchad, is a landlocked country in Central Africa

At 1.2m square kilometres, Chad is the world's 22nd-largest country.
Chad is bounded to the north by Libya, to the east by Sudan, to the west by Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon, and to the south by

the Central African Republic.

Chad's national statistical agency projected the country's 2015 population at about 13m. 3m people lived in urban areas and

10m people lived in rural areas.The country's population is young: an estimated 47.3% is under 15. The birth rate is estimated

at 42.35 births per 1,000 people, the mortality rate at 16.69. The life expectancy is 52 years.

Chad's official languages are Arabic and French, but over 100 languages and dialects are spoken


The flag of Chad is a vertical tricolour consisting (left to right) of a blue, a gold and a red column. These were intended to

be a combination of the colours of blue, white and red as seen on the Flag of France with the Pan-African colours of green,

yellow and red. Furthermore, the blue represents the sky and hope; the gold is the sun and desert, and the red signifies the

bloodshed over independence.
