For the romantic ones, they had one of the most - if not the most - sweet, resilient and beautiful love story in the film industry that lasted +50 years. 50. WOW.
They first met in 1953 when Paul was making his Broadway debut in the play Picnic. And despite what you might think, it was not love at first sight, not for Joanne anyway. She was not impressed with him, in fact she once said that "he looked like an ice cream soda", to her he was "just a pretty face". Paul on the other hand was sweept off his feet when their eyes met. Quoting him from his book "She was modern and independent, whereas I was shy and a bit conservative. It took me a long time to persuade her that I wasn't as dull as I looked".
At the time Paul was already a father of three, married to Jackie Witte and because of his family, he didn't pursue a relationship with Joanne right way.
Wasn't till 1957, almost five years after they first met, that they reunited on the set of «The Long, Hot Summer» and the chemistry between the two (on and off screen) became undeniable and the romance took off. A short while Paul divorces his wife which made him feel "guilty has hell", a feeling that he would carry for the rest of his life, he also said, and wed Joanne in 1958 in Vegas.
And even tought their marriage was far from being a bed of roses, testing them with some rough times, they "had an unusual connection and passion for one another that is rare.
They respected each other and laughed more than any couple I have ever known", their daughter Clea told to a magazine.

Joanne said in a interview about their marriage, back in 2002, that "he's very good looking and very sexy and all of those things, but all of that goes out the window and what is finally left is, if you can make somebody laugh. And he sure does keep me laughing".
Paul attributed the relationship's longevity to "some combination of lust and respect and patience. And determination."

While I was editing this video I kept caughting myself holding my breath and then sighing at some scenes they made together in their films.
Weren't they just so beautiful to look at? Don't we all want a love like theirs or one that's close enough? Ugh.
What a power couple. Not to mention how much they contributed to good causes over the years.
Anyways, this is my little tribute to them, since they touched so many peoples hearts with their love for each other, movie careers and generosity.
I had so much more clips and photos I wish I've added to the video but sadly the song isn't long enough. I also which I could've done more and better but this is what I came up with for the time being. Hope it's good enough.

And RIP Paul Newman. You're deeply missed.
