The Glasgow Pub That Serves Gravy With Its Pies

The Laurieston. Just another Glasgow pub? Definitely not.

This iconic establishment has a perfectly-preserved 1960s interior, which in itself may not sound a lot to write home about, but when you think of all the pub interiors that have been ripped out and replaced over the years, the fact that this pub interior has survived is nothing short of miraculous.

Pubs change owners any number of times throughout their existence. Nothing new there. But in most cases, during a change of ownership, the pub has its internal fixtures and fittings ripped out and replaced. I'm sure that in the 1960s, when the current interior was put in place, the curving red formica and stylish lines and decor of its day replaced an earlier interior that itself may have been a good example of pub architecture of its period. But The Laurieston's 1960s interior has survived, and thank goodness for that. For it's nice to be in a pub with character, and not in some bland modern drinking den with about as much style as a gherkin.

Immerse yourself in the red formica of a bygone era, when people liked to chat, drink beer, and eat pies; with gravy, of course.

On 15th March 2024 it was announced in the Press that The Laurieston had been sold. Thankfully the new owner has given assurances that nothing will change. Nevertheless, one cannot help but feel that this may well be the end of an era.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you The Laurieston.
