In this episode of Newshour Debate, G Madhavdas will be discussing Twitter vs Government row. Union Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Tuesday that the Indian Government will hold social media accountable for its content because of the significance of social media and its reach. "Twitter has had a problem with this in multiple countries where it has often been asked by regressive regimes to take down posts on a selective basis", Sumanth Raman. "No one has invited Twitter to India. So they can't determine what they will do within the constitutional framework of our country. Every Govt has the right to control media that might inflame passions", says Suhel Seth. "These intermediary guidelines/rules were not the brainchild of just the current Govt. Even people like Jairam Ramesh demanded it, supported it and they wanted stronger laws to regulate social media", says Shehzad Poonawala. Watch out for a full discussion.
