Release story: the Snowy Owls (Bubo scandiacus) were met in Inuvik by Fish and Wildlife officers, and were then driven to Shell Lake. Their wing wraps were removed. The first owl was released and she flew straight and true across the lake to perch in a dead tree on the other side. The second owl was still a bit groggy from her sedation and not quite ready for release, so she was kept in her crate for a few hours until she was fully alert. She was successfully released near Shell Lake as well.

Now you can imagine these two beautiful owls flying free across the tundra of the Northwest Territories. When they fly South during their winter migration, perhaps they will return to Alberta and will know to avoid cars and power lines, hazards they rarely encounter up North. Thanks for watching!
