In pregnancy blood volume increases by 40 % to meet increased demand by developing baby.
So water requirement is increased.

Water contains essential minerals for babies growth.
In pregnancy due to smooth muscle relaxation there are increased chances of urinary tract infections and constipation...drinking adequate water flushes urinary tract frequently and prevents infections and also constipation.

In first trimester because of nausea it may be difficult to drink water, in that case take it sip by sip or add alternatives like fruit juices, coconut water,electrolyte solutions to fulfill daily water requirement.

In first 5 months there is slight fall in blood pressure and patient may feel dizziness, light headedness..to prevent low BP avoid prolonged standing, drink adequate amount of water.

Women who have history of increased BP , low birth weight baby, reduced liquor around baby in previous pregnancy or women who are at risk of developing these problems in current pregnancy sufficient water intake plays Important role to prevent these by improving blood circulation to baby.

Some pregnant women have frequency of urination that could be because of pelviccongestionin pregnancyor urinary tract infection. So they reduce water intake which worsens the symptoms...and if you have to get up many times at night to pass urine it is advisable to limit water intake after 8 pm..
