Misconceptions About Autism That Prevented Her Diagnosis

Описание к видео Misconceptions About Autism That Prevented Her Diagnosis

Our first daughter to be diagnosed as being autistic, was diagnosed when she was three, but the signs were there and were quite clear much earlier, if we had only known them, and if we had only known more than stereotypes and misconceptions about autism that we'd seen in popular media and magazines. Today I talk about how those misconceptions meant that I didn't recognize Maggie's very obvious neurodiversity, when it was there, because everything I'd ever heard about autism was so incredibly scary. And I talk about how very different our personal experience has actually been.

Welcome to Someday I'll Sleep Autism Vlogs! We talk a lot about autism around here because as a family with three kids on the autism spectrum we believe that autism acceptance is extremely important. We also post family vlogs daily, about our lives. You'll get glimpses of what's going on at the moment in our lives, usually in a little town in Michigan, or in the city that Paul works in and where we have about a million therapy sessions each week.

We are a family of 7, with a Mom named Cammie and a Dad named Paul. Sadie is 11, Maggie is 9, Patrick is 6, James is 5, and Tessie is now 3!

If you'd like to help us translate and transcribe our videos we would appreciate it so very much! With 5 kids and lots of therapy appointments Cammie doesn't have very much time left over after she finishes editing videos so transcribing is slow going around here! http://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_p...
