Lolegaon, a small, tranquil hamlet in Kalimpong, Darjeeling is a natural haven with stunning scenery that includes serene valleys and lush, green forests. In the early morning mist, Kanchenjunga's summits rise gloriously. This picturesque Lepcha village is located 24 kilometers from Lava, at an altitude of 1,675 meters. It is a part of the West Bengal Darjeeling District's Kalimpong I block. The closest town to Lolegaon, Kalimpong, is 55 kilometers away.
In a forest full of fir, oak, birch, and cypress trees, one would find numerous trails that will take him toward picturesque sightings and would allow guests to admire the forest's grandeur from a distance. A simple jungle walk amidst the serene greenery would help you indulge in the calmness of the forest here. The sounds of chirping birds, buzzing insects, gliding butterflies, hues of light and darkness as the sun barely penetrated the dense forests, and most of all the aroma of the jungle will add fragrance to your entire trip. On reaching Lolegaon, a giant statue of Buddha will be blessing the guests as soon as they enter the eco-park. A flat area opposite the Eco-Park in the middle of the village is home to a few quaint stores and tea vendors. There is a close market area where you can dine or purchase items. You can munch on delicious appetizers or walk around traversing the tiny hamlet.
A beautiful site near Lolegaon, Jhandi Dara is 52 kilometers from Lava, 70 kilometers from Darjeeling, and 31 kilometers from Kalimpong. It provides views of the Dooars Plains, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kanchenjunga, and Nathula from a single place. One would get a panoramic view of the magnificent Himalayan Range - the breathtaking Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest's majestic snow-capped summits from here on a clear day. You can trek up to this viewpoint early in the morning to catch the sunrise if you're staying at Lolegaon.
The VIP Bungalow View Point here is worth a visit. Below the VIP bungalow is a well-kept lawn area with lovely galleries. You can obtain fantastic vistas of the Kanchenjunga snow peaks from here.
Samthar Plateau is one magnificent location among the many others in the vicinity of Lolegaon that every traveler should see at least once. This picturesque location, situated at a height of roughly 1,400 m on the foothills of the Himalayas, has terraced farms, mountain streams, and thatch huts, further enhancing its natural beauty. Additionally, this location is renowned as a haven for environmentalists and birdwatchers. If one wishes to indulge their adventurous side, trekking to this location should be at the top of the list.
The Bagdogra Airport, which is located outside of Siliguri, is the closest to Lolegaon. It has excellent transportation options and also welcomes international airlines. New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri are the closest railway stations. From Siliguri, you can easily travel to Lolegaon via Kalimpong and Lava.
Amidst the neighboring dense plantation, stands The Lolegaon Eco-Tourism resort, an initiative by the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation. Along with enjoying the facilities like airy rooms and freshly cooked appetizing meals, one can experience campfires sitting in the garden adjacent to the resort. You can also take trolls in the garden during the daytime and enjoy the serenity of nature.
