MAHLE Torqueboost CamInCam® (CIC)

The MAHLE CamInCam® system (CIC) of two concentric camshafts, one inside the other, allows the cam lobes to be adjusted relative to each other.

One cam lobe per cylinder is fixed to the outer shaft, and the second cam lobe is pinned to the inner shaft. The two shafts can be adjusted relative to each other with a conventional cam phaser. The overall expansion of functionality can be achieved with a CIC without increase in package constraint. The CIC simply replaces the standard camshaft.

With MAHLE's CamInCam® technology (CIC), valve train variability can be expanded with only minor changes to the existing cylinder head design.

The advantage of CIC technology is in its continuous and infinitely variable valve opening times, which can be ideally adjusted to the current load and engine speed. The MAHLE CIC is a robust, functional, cost-effective solution for current and future engine generations, especially in torqueboost applications.
