In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 7 Topic 14 of the AP U.S. History curriculum which is set in period 7 (1898-1945).

After World War II was over, there was much ado about how the world would be made safe from another global war. To that end, the Big Three (Stalin, Churchill, and Roosevelt) met at the Yalta Conference to hammer out the details of the post-war world. It was agreed that eastern European nations would hold free elections, but Stalin went ahead and consolidated those nations into the Soviet Union, which will cause a great deal of tension with the west moving forward. Additionally, Germany was to be jointly occupied by France, the U.S., Britain, and the Soviet Union. The portions occupied by western powers would enjoy a much quicker recovery due to programs like the Marshall Plan. The Soviet occupied portion would struggle under communism, which would set the stage for further conflicts in the coming Cold War.

Additionally, in order to keep the world safe from future global wars, a new iteration of the League of Nations was created called the United Nations. This international body was much stronger than the League and thus could intervene in world affairs to achieve its objectives.
