During the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, country music star Taylor Swift was awarded the Best Female Video award for her song "You Belong to Me." As she was preparing to give her acceptance speech, rapper Kanye West jumped on stage, grabbed the microphone from Swift's hands, and proceeded to say "Yo, Taylor. I'm really happy for you and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce [Knowles] had one of the best videos of all time." The crowd booed West and he proceeded to flip off the hostile crowd. Later, an apologetic West would issue apologies via his blog and twitter as well as to make this appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
