Why Is Visceral Fat So Bad?
A 2008 study in Hepatology found that visceral fat increases risk of liver disease because it dumps a ton of triglycerides into your liver through the portal vein.
A hallmark 2011 paper in the European Journal of Epidemiology concluded that visceral fat is the single most accurate predictor of heart disease.

The Simplest Breakfast Diet For Burning Visceral Fat
A 2023 study in the Journal of Obesity compared intermittent fasting (one day fasting per week) versus a regular low-calorie diet.
Participants followed the diets for 8 weeks.
Fasting for one day a week was superior to normal dieting in every way, including:
Nearly 2x overall weight loss (9% vs. 5% decrease in body weight)
More than 2x visceral fat loss (33% vs. 14% decrease in visceral fat)
Much greater appetite reduction with fasting (17% vs. 1% decrease in appetite)

Both groups ate the same total amount of food—but there was one key difference: the fasting group also followed a high-protein diet on eating days.
