Today we are visiting Ghela Somnath Mahadev Temple near Jasdan, Rajkot.
This Temple is situated on the bank of the Ghelo river. (previously known as Unmmat Ganga)

Within around half an hour, we reached here. the huge parking place is available here. you can also find many shops/stalls selling Snacks, Juices & toys, etc. So before going to Darshan, let's explore the history of this place.

This Temple has a historic significance, It was about the time that the Mughals invaded India. Mahmood Gaznavi is one of the most cruel invaders. Many times he attacked Somnath temple. During the 15th century, Kuwar Mahipal was ruling in Junagadh, Kuwari Meenal Devi was a great devotee of Shiva.

Due to the fear of the Mughals, they established the Shivling in the Basement of the temple. When Mahmood Zafar (1457) came to know about this, he ordered his army to attack the temple. But her daughter Hural gave the news of his father's plans to Meenal Devi.

Hence, Minal Devi took the decision to shift the Linga to another place, so she set out on a Palkhi with Ghelo Vaniya. After around 250 add km, they reached somewhere near Jasdan on the bank of river Unmat Ganga.

Here they decide to Install the Shiva Linga. But when the Sultan came to know about this, he sent his army to them. His army killed thousands of men coming on the way & burned many villages.

Here Ghelo Vaniyo prepared for war, and Minal Devi took samadhi on a nearby hill. when the army reached their Ghelo Vaniyo fought with them very bravely and died.

Later on, A brahmin named Vajal Bhatt Built this temple here & named it Ghela Somnath & the river was also known as the Ghelo River.

Even today you can see the temple of Minal Devi on a small hill, in front of this Temple.

This temple is located in a very remote location, you can't find any hotels to stay nearby. However, the Mandir Trust provides free food & Stay facilities at a reasonable cost to the devotees. for more details, you can contact them at +91 99799 24986.
