Backpacking to Merriam Lake in the Lost River Range in Idaho

Merriam Lake is located in the Lost River Range near Mackay, Idaho in the Pahsimeroi Valley. The Lake is surrounded by mountains over 12,000', one of those mountains is Mount Idaho sitting at 12,064' which stands high and mighty behind Merriam Lake. The hike is about 3.7 miles out & back with an elevation gain of around 1500ft with the very last section being extremely steep. The hike itself is absolutely beautiful with wild flowers, high mountain peaks, and little waterfalls along the way. The pristine water and the flowered covered meadows is why Merriam Lake is Idaho’s hidden gem.
