Netflix released a behind-the-scenes documentary called One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, and eagle-eyed viewers spotted what looked like ChatGPT open on a laptop next to the script.

That single moment exploded online. Fans accused the Duffer Brothers of using AI to help write the ending, especially because the finale already divided viewers.

But the documentary’s director, Martina Radwan, shut it down. She said there’s no proof ChatGPT was even open, and explained that writers often use multiple tools for quick research — not storytelling.

She added that writing a complex show with nearly twenty characters can’t realistically be done by AI.

Despite the denial, the controversy kept growing. Fans started petitions for “alternate endings” and even spread rumors of a secret ninth episode — none of which were confirmed.

Bottom line: one blurry laptop screen sparked a massive AI controversy — but the creators insist Stranger Things was written by humans, not ChatGPT.
