Purana Qila is a beautiful example of ancient architecture of the Mughal Empire. Humayun started building Purana Qila in 1533. He had laid the foundation of his new capital "Din Panah" at this place. When Sher Shah Suri defeated Humayun in 1540 he changed the name of this place to Shergarh. During his rule, he made few structural additions to the fort. The fort has three entrances. The western gate is known as the Bada Darwaza. The western gate or Bada Darwaza is still in use and is the main gate to enter the Purana Qila. The main attraction here are Qila-e-Kuhna Mosque, Sher Mandal, Humayun Darwaza and Talaqi Darwaza.
