Lexus Subwoofer: Super Simple Sub Swap! For Mark Levinson audio in ISF, IS250, IS350 from 2008/2014

The factory Mark Levinson subwoofer on Lexus IS vehicles in the late 2000s/early 2010s is said to be an 8 ohm unit. That's a bit of an odd impedance to have in a car, but it's easy enough to swap out if you get yourself the right sub.

And you'll probably need to replace the factory sub at some point because they're pretty notorious for dieing.

In this video, I bridge a 4 ohm dual voice coil subwoofer into 8 ohms by wiring the coils in series. Then we patch into the existing wiring in the vehicle and power our replacement sub from the factory amplifier.

Rather than try to mount an 8" into the parcel shelf, which is too shallow for almost any readily available sub on the market, I've gone with a 10" in a sealed enclosure which I point through the ski-port (the hole behind the rear centre armrest).

The end result sounds really good and adds some richness and warmth back into the system if you've been putting up with a busted factory sub. You're never going to rattle windows with this setup, but that was never the intention.
