Описание к видео Railroad Bridge Pier Caps Built with Fiber Reinforced Concrete

The historic Amana Railroad Bridge in eastern Iowa has been rebuilt to extend its life for another century. CRANDIC Rail’s Iowa River Bridge supports up to four trains each day, some weighing as much as 14,500 tons, so this bridge demanded durable, high-performance concrete. To meet that challenge, project leaders selected fiber reinforced concrete for bridge pier caps, strengthened with REGEN Fiber’s E-Flex 500 fibers made from recycled wind turbine blades.

Across three pours, the project placed approximately 150 cubic yards of fiber-reinforced concrete, beginning with a 4,000 PSI mix dosed at 5 lbs of fiber per cubic yard. With heavy rebar reinforcement, each pier cap required a flowable yet strong mix that could be pumped smoothly into tight formwork. Crews reported excellent performance: no fiber balling, minimal visibility of fibers after finishing, and a clean, consolidated product that delivered both flexural and compressive strength.

Feedback from ready-mix producers and pump operators confirmed how well REGEN Fiber integrated into the mix, ensuring reliable pumping, vibration, and placement even under demanding construction conditions. Early test results also showed higher-than-expected strength gains, reinforcing the value of fiber reinforcement in heavy civil applications.

By using fiber reinforced concrete in bridge pier cap construction, Kraemer North America demonstrated that sustainable materials can also meet the most rigorous performance demands. This project highlights how REGEN Fiber supports the circular economy, transforming retired wind turbine blades into high-performance fibers that strengthen concrete while reducing environmental impact.

This successful series of pours proves REGEN Fiber’s ability to deliver strength, pumpability, and sustainability in a heavy industrial project designed to carry rail traffic well into the next century.
