There are a few main types:

Transflective Displays:
These are a hybrid of reflective and transmissive displays. The screen reflects ambient light in addition to using a backlight, so in bright sunlight, the display is more visible without relying solely on the backlight.
Commonly used in outdoor devices like GPS units, e-readers, and smartwatches.

OLED :
OLED displays can be made bright enough to compete with sunlight, and since they produce their own light (as opposed to using a backlight), they can offer deep contrast and vibrant colors.
However, OLED screens may struggle in very bright environments compared to some other technologies.

E-Ink Displays:
E-Ink (electronic ink) displays are often used in e-readers (like the Kindle), and they reflect light much like paper, making them extremely readable in direct sunlight.

They require no backlight and use minimal power, but they’re typically limited to black-and-white or grayscale.

High Brightness LCDs:
These are regular LCDs, but with enhanced backlighting to make them much brighter than typical screens. They are used in devices that need to be visible in harsh outdoor conditions.
A common example is in automotive displays or industrial equipment.

Anti-Glare Coatings:
Many displays, regardless of the technology, will have a matte or anti-glare coating to reduce reflections, which is important for making screens readable outdoors.
