During our Ewell Concert Series performance we paid tribute to the late, great Wayne Shorter by juxtaposing his ballad, "Virgo", with one of my ballads, "Morning". (We play the melody of Virgo, then the melody of Morning and we improvise on Morning, for those following along). Wayne Shorter has definitely been a major influence on me as an improviser and as a writer, so I thought this would be a great way to tip my hat to him.
