Esteemed scholar and author Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D. explores the intersection of mysticism and theory in the life and teachings of revered Tibetan Buddhist teacher, Tsongkhapa. Tsongkhapa was a key figure in the Ganden Renaissance and a great contributor to the evolution of Tibetan Buddhist thought. Thupten Jinpa’s book, Tsongkhapa: A Buddha in the Land of Snows, is considered the quintessential biography on this great master. In his talk, Jinpa discusses the relevance of Tsongkhapa’s teachings today and explores the often-overlooked mystical dimension that was a significant part of Tsongkhapa’s life and work. Thupten Jinpa, Ph.D. has been the principal English translator to the Dalai Lama since 1985. He is a Tibetan Buddhist scholar, former monk, and has received the Geshe Lharam degree, as well as a Ph.D. in religious studies from Cambridge University. A professor at McGill University, he has translated and edited more than ten books by the Dalai Lama and many of his own. He established the Institute of Tibetan Classics to help preserve Tibet’s rich intellectual, spiritual, and artistic heritage through the translation of many of its seminal texts. He is also an active board member of the Mind and Life Institute, the Founder and Chairman of Compassion Institute, and is a visiting research scholar at the Stanford Institute for Neuro-Innovation and Translational Neurosciences at Stanford University.
