Add Manual Shutter Speeds to Yashica Electro 35 series cameras. DIY

This is an instructional video on how to add manual shutter speed selection to a Yashica Electro 35 G/GT/GS/GSN/GTN series camera.

The project was inspired by stefanhh1 on flickr. He posted about a prototype he made back in 2010 on flickr here:

Here is a link to the circuit diagram if you are curious how it works, fairly simple analog RC circuit (plus a few transistors):

If you are curious about how the camera works, particularly nice are the circuit diagrams with current paths during different points in an exposure (P59-64) in this manual:

To do this conversion you will need some simple tools, including a shutter speed tester. There are lots of youtube videos about professional testers and very accurate testers, I built a quick and dirty one, good enough for this purpose for less than $10 here:

In making this video I chose to err on the side of detail rather than brevity, more of a manual than entertainment, and I assumed that the viewer knows nothing to begin with. You may want to watch with the skip button in heavy use if you have some remedial electronics, camera repair, or soldering skills. I hope it can be useful to some folks, and I'd love to see what others make with this tutorial.
