In this example problem, a detailed beam analysis is carried out using PTC Mathcad as the tool. The example goes through the solution of beam reactions, and then the derivation of equations for the discontinuous shear force and bending moment diagrams using the direct method over multiple parts of the beam from their partial free body diagrams. SFD and BMD are plotted and then maximum normal and shear stresses for the beam are calculated.

Mathcad techniques employed include: symbolic and numeric solver integrations, functions, multi-domain functions, plots, maximize function, max and min functions, and many more.
