HOW TO TELL IF YOUR DRAGON FRUIT BLOSSOM HAS BEEN POLLINATED SUCCESSFULLY?

The earliest indication is clear line of demarcation that starts to form between the green fruit-to-be and the yellow flower. This is usually quite visible by day 5 if pollination was successful. If not the entire bloom and its base-fruit start to yellow and eventually turn brown and fall off.

It is best to remove the dried-out flower after a few days, otherwise it may start to develop mold and that could affect the fruit. It should twist off fairly easily once it dries out.

Some INTERESTING THINGS I learned in the process of growing this dragon fruit plant over the past 18 months:

🐉It grew extremely fast. From a 10-inch rooted cutting to a massive tree in under 18 months

🐉It is important that you know the variety. There are self-sterile and self-pollinating types. And if you get a self-sterile type, you will never get fruit - you need pollen from another variety to pollinate it. I lucked out and got a self-pollinating type!

🐉The Dragon Fruit industry is not regulated, so plants sold at Big Box stores or even nurseries are often mislabeled and you can't say for sure what you will get! In fact, there is a "name" for this in the Dragon Fruit community - it's called a NOID (No ID!)

Know that it can quickly become an obsession and addiction of sorts! I know I am going to be on the lookout to grow my Dragon Fruit collection. I already have 3 different NoIDs, and I have started growing some from seed!
