The First Order is a successor military state to the Galactic Empire, first detailed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While the FO relies heavily on traditional Imperial technology, everything from their Storm Troopers to their Resurgent Class Battleship is upgraded. Even their most famous weapon, the Starkiller Base, is reminiscent of Death Star Technology. In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the First Order will have even bigger toys, including their new Mandator IV Dreadnaught and perhaps a "Mega Star Destroyer".

The Confederacy of Independent Systems, also known as the Seperatists, the Confederacy, or the CIS, are a group of planets which seceeded from Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. The Confederacy relied on a Battle Droid Army to fight the Republic's Clone Troopers.
