Although coding certifications make your more marketable and will increase your earning potential, if you have your RHIT certification, it is not necessary to get a coding certification as you already learned medical coding and medical terminology in your Health Information Technology program. Most employers will hire you with your RHIT certification to work as a medical coder. Medical coding is one of the many careers you can pursue as a Registered Health Information Technician.(RHIT) So you are not limited to just doing medical coding!
