In 2010, Patrick McKeown set out to bring breathwork to men, a group largely disengaged from traditional mindfulness practices. Amid Ireland’s economic crisis, stress and mental health struggles were rising, yet few men attended his workshops. Realizing that terms like “anxiety relief” weren’t resonating, he shifted the focus to performance-based breathing—a tool for both physical and mental resilience.

From this vision, Oxygen Advantage® was born—a science-backed method designed to enhance endurance, recovery, focus, and overall well-being. What started as a mission to engage men has now grown into a global movement, with thousands of instructors teaching the method in over 50 countries.

When Oxygen Advantage® first started, it was designed to bring breathing training to men—fast forward to today, and we’ve seen a huge shift.
