A quiet February morning in Önnered, where the forest between Grevegården and the coast holds onto winter without quite committing to it. The air carries that particular hush of near-freezing dampness, when fog lingers among the pines and every breath reminds you the sea is never far away.

Aamu, already shedding her thick coat in this stubbornly mild season, leads the way through familiar paths. Her nose finds a squirrel almost immediately—someone unbothered, watching from a branch with the confidence of a creature who knows these woods belong to no one. We let it be.

But the forest has woken early today. Voices carry through the trees where families build among the branches, and loose dogs tumble through the undergrowth in games of their own. Aamu notices each intrusion with the quiet vigilance of a dog who prefers her walks uninterrupted, her sharp bark occasionally reminding the world that she was here first.

Then something truly rare: a northern goshawk bursts through the canopy, that sudden shadow and flap of wings that makes you freeze mid-step. They hunt these coastal forests, though seldom seen.

There are sticks to consider, of course—some rejected, some carried, one torn to bark and splinters with serious intent. And there is the inevitable moment when Aamu, scratching an itch against the earth, simply tips over and rolls, all dignity abandoned, fur flying in clumps.

Three kilometres of granite paths and pine needle floors, of blackbirds calling through the mist and the distant sound of waves you cannot quite see. Not the winter we expected. But a morning that belongs to us nonetheless.
