The selves we present on our social media accounts — Instagram, Twitter, whatever — are not really us. They’re the pretty versions of us, the best versions, the magical, fantasy world we wish to portray. What if every single in-person encounter was up for consideration, a real-life Yelp-style rating that affects your reputation? YEET! Can you imagine?

That’s the reality “Nosedive,” written by Rashida Jones and Mike Schur, imagines. Starring Bryce Dallas Howard, the episode is set in a world where everyone is ranked out of five.

The Black Mirror concept of social conduct rating is the closest to surface in real-life, and China has proven this theory to be correct in implementing "Civility Code" in the city of Suzhou'. The city's government would be able to rate, read, and evaluate people using the application. Citizens are rated accordingly, mostly based on social settings such as getting bonuses for volunteering and getting demerits from traffic violations.
