Nesiya - Eretz

...A land that devours its inhabitants..."

This phrase comes from the Book of Numbers (13:32) in the Torah. It is part of the report given by the spies sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan.
I wrote the lyrics for "Eretz" to the music of Marcus Rust shortly after October 7th and during one of those sleepless tearful nights when the red-haired Bibas kids were filling my dreams...

ארץ שאוכלת יושביה
והיא תכול אין עב
ארץ שצמאה לגשמיה
ולעגל זהב
כבר עברו הסופות
כבר הביאו יורה ומלקוש
גם שקרים ואמת
כל אשר הם יכלו לתת.

ארץ שנפלה על פניה פצועה ועצובה
שהמתיקו לה אוהביה
והיא מלוחה
רק שלא תשאלי
לשלום אסירייך
הם נתנו באמת
כל אשר שהם יכלו לתת.

ובלילה בחלום
שיער אדום זהב
והדרך ארוכה הביתה מן הסתיו
עוד אלמד לחיות עם הכאב בנשמה
עוד אלמד ללחוש: "לא ילמדון עוד מלחמה".

ארץ שהבדיל אלוהיה
בין חושך ובין אור
והחליט לתת ליושביה
בין אלו לבחור
ושתק אלוהים כשראה עולמו מתמוטת
ובכה, כי לבחור לא היה הוא צריך לתת.
