Enucleation, or surgical removal of the eye, is sometimes the best treatment choice for certain types of ocular cancer, including retinoblastoma. If the cancer is too advanced, the decision to remove the eye may be considered. Matthew Wilson, M.D., and Rachel Brennan, M.D., of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, explain considerations when making the decision on eye removal. Parents and former patients with eye cancer share their stories of cancer survivorship after enucleation.
