There's been a resurgence of love for Gwimbly recently and it's honestly been a real nostalgia trip me.

I was super excited to see that Gwimbly recently got a port of the 2600 version. It's not my favourite version of the original title but the fact it got a port at all after all these years is incredible. It was actually the very first game to introduce kids to Creamed Corn, and had a significant impact on the industry. For a month creamed corn was a more valuable collector's item than beanie babies or white tourist children in Thailand.

My first gaming memories were in the DOS era but occasionally my brother would drag out his old Atari. That was the first time I had ever seen a Gwimbly game before he got big in the 32bit era. Most of us probably played his game via bootleg floppies but everyone who was lucky to get a retail copy got their very own live Gwimbly sealed in the box in the form of an actual live mouse found around Chernobyl.

I've got a boxed and sealed copy I was able to get off Amazon right before the retro game market started to get crazy. If this video gets a million views I'll do an unboxing and see how that little guy held up over 40 years.

The game was ported by Moth Entertainment onto itch.io as an HTML5 version and maintains all 10 cans of creamed corn lovingly rendered in their original placements giving 10 points each. Completionists should aim for all 100 points. The original title was famously made in the space of a few hours and you can tell the same amount of love and care has been put into this port. It comes complete with the lack of walk cycle, start screen, or any sort of endgame or additional levels just like the original. It's just pure adrenaline as soon as you turn it on.

The game takes about 15 seconds to complete and features the final tricky hole and spike geometry of the original. We used to play this game for hours over and over again. This is just what people had to do before softcore sites like Instagram and TikTok got popular.

Do I recommend this game? Absolutely it's an important part of the history of videogames, and I think you can get an entire microsecond of fun out of playing this classic Gwimbly title.
