Ever heard of nerve glides?

Nerve glides, also known as neural stretching, is a NEURODYNAMIC rehab exercise that facilitates movement of the neural tissues.

Neural dynamic exercises should allow neural tissue to move, slide and glide through our bodies (muscles, tissues, etc) similarly to how floss glides through our teeth.

Have you ever had floss get “stuck” between 2 teeth? Well, nerve tissue can do get “stuck” in the same way between joints, within foraminal areas, under muscles and connective tissue, etc.

Working on nerve gliding allows the nerve to move freely alongside the movement of the associated joints; and to ensure it is free from compression and pressure. Creating this dynamic balance between the movement of neural tissues and mechanical influences, allows for reduced pressures on the neural tissues. This in turns ensures proper physiological function!

In the upper extremity, we have 3️⃣ nerves:

1️⃣ Median Nerve that innervates down the inside of the arm and into the palm of the 3 fingers and the radial side of the 4th finger.

2️⃣ Ulnar nerve that innervates the inside of the arm down into the 4th and 5th finger (the ulnar side of the 4th finger)

3️⃣ Radial nerve runs down the outside of the arm into the back of the palm and the back of the 1-5th fingers.
