On the PS5, there are two main ways to hide your online status and what you're currently playing, and the "best method" depends on whether you want a quick change or a more permanent privacy setting.

Method 1: Quick & Temporary - Appear Offline
This is the fastest and most convenient way to hide your online status on the fly. It makes you appear offline to all other players on the PlayStation Network.

Open the Control Center: Press the PS button on your DualSense controller. This brings up the Quick Menu at the bottom of the screen.

Navigate to your Profile: Scroll along the Control Center until you highlight your profile icon (your avatar).

Select Online Status: Press the X button on your profile icon. A small menu will pop up with your online status options.

Choose "Appear Offline": Select "Appear Offline" from the list.

This will change your status immediately. To others, it will look like you are not signed in to the PlayStation Network. Keep in mind that this setting is "sticky"—it will remain as your default status the next time you log in until you change it back.
