Amidst the tranquil valleys of Karsog, the Temple of Dev Mahunag stands as a timeless testament to faith and divine intervention. This ancient sanctuary, veiled in legends and steeped in history, beckons pilgrims and travelers alike to partake in its mystical aura.

The story of Dev Mahunag's temple echoes through the ages, beginning with the unwavering devotion of Raja Shyam Sen, a noble ruler of Mandi. Inspired by the tales of Lord Karna's valor in the Mahabharata, Raja Shyam Sen embarked on a journey of faith. In 1664, under his patronage, the magnificent temple was erected—a sanctuary dedicated to Mahunag, the divine protector.

Legend has it that Mahunag's benevolence extends beyond the sacred walls of the temple. Tales speak of Mahunag's miraculous intervention to rescue Raja Shyam Sen from the clutches of a Mughal ruler. Imprisoned unjustly within a large drum, the king invoked Mahunag's aid. In the guise of a humble honeybee, Mahunag infiltrated the drum and struck a bargain with the captive king. In exchange for shelter, Mahunag vowed to secure Raja Shyam Sen's release.

Transforming into a masterful chess player, Mahunag challenged the Mughal ruler to a high-stakes game. Victory was Mahunag's, and with it, the release of Raja Shyam Sen. As promised, Mahunag revealed his divine form to the grateful king, cementing his legacy in the annals of Mandi's history.

Another tale recounts the discovery of Lord Karan's idol by a diligent farmer. Unearthing the sacred artifact while tilling the fields, the farmer unknowingly unearthed a divine connection to Mahunag. The installation of this idol led to the construction of a temple atop a hill near Bakahari village—a testament to the community's reverence for their guardian deity.

In a variant of this myth, Mahunag's divine presence chooses its abode. Despite being taken to another village, Mahunag's spiritual energy could not be contained. A lightning strike marked Mahunag's arrival in Bakhari, igniting a perpetual flame—an eternal reminder of Mahunag's divine providence.

Today, as devotees and travelers flock to the Temple of Dev Mahunag, they are greeted by more than just stone and mortar. The temple stands as a living symbol of unwavering faith and the enduring bond between Lord Karna and his devotees. Surrounded by the natural splendor of Himachal Pradesh, this sanctuary offers solace and spiritual nourishment to all who seek Mahunag's grace.

As the winds whisper through the apple orchards and the murmur of flowing streams serenades the valley, the Temple of Dev Mahunag remains a sanctuary of peace—a haven where legends live on, and the spirit of Lord Karna, in the form of Mahu the bee, continues to answer the calls of the faithful.
