'Data Overflow' Shark Bytes (Remix) - Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion

Finally tackling an Octo Expansion remix -- so wave your tentacles in the air and get ready to jam!

Hey everyone! It's about time I took on an Octo Expansion track and I did not hold back! When I first heard Shark Bytes in the game, it got me so hyped up and definitely was a standout track, so I knew I just had to remix it! The pumpin' bass line and the lovely glitchy synth work, as well as that wonderful banjo(?), makes for a very exciting track, even for Off the Hook standards! I hope you enjoy my take on it!

I was definitely super pumped to amplify this track, and that started with the bass. I took some (quite obvious) inspiration from a few Shibayan Touhou remixes to really get down on the gritty bass and punchy percussion. I absolutely had a blast writing every bass and drum pattern, even if they did take a lot of mind power. As fate would have it, the recent Off the Hook live came out as I was working on this mix, so I definitely took a few notes from that performance as well, although I did try to keep it closer to the in-game version. I had some particular trouble with sound design while working this mix. Things just weren't quite sounding right and on top of that I had to adapt the original vocal lines into something that worked in this context. But I think it turned out alright, and I'm really proud of what I have here!

Thanks for all the support everyone! I really wanted to get this one out in January, but alas time went on without me. I've actually been spending a lot of my time on a newly formed Splatoon 2 competitive team, Walk the Plankton, and it's been a blast! I had an absolutely amazing time working on this mix, so even more Splatoon remixes will definitely be coming throughout the year, so stay tuned~
