The Ever Changing Zoo | Whitney Roemer | TEDxLagunaBlancaSchool

Whitney Roemer is a zoologist, educator, and above all, a lover of wildlife. Having volunteered and worked at several different facilities, and explored some of the most beautiful biodiverse parts of the planet, Whitney shares about the vast beauty within our world, and explains how we can learn from it and protect it. In her talk, she educates her listeners on “The Modern Zoo,” and empowers us to find our connectedness to nature. I had the privilege of growing up in the Michigan country, surrounded by so much life. We gardened, knew the name of every bird, butterfly and flower, and spent much of our time outside. I was raised with the idea that we are a part of the ecosystem and I wanted to learn everything about my wild neighbors.
That connectedness has taken me all over the world and is what eventually landed me in conservation education here in Santa Barbara. I want to help others find their passion for the planet and the understanding that we are all in this together. I’m driven by the kids I work with every day that already start with so much curiosity and a draw to nature. If we can retain that as adults, imagine what the planet may look like.
