However, the only opposition leader included in the panel, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is the Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, declined to become a member suggesting that it may bias the outcomes in a certain direction. Other Senior Leaders from Congress including P Chidambaram, Digvijaya Singh, K C Venugopal, have doubted the Centre’s intention. On the other hand, the BJP and NDA suggested that simultaneous elections would reduce the expenses for separate elections and slammed the opposition’s double standards.
